Blogger Outreach
This week for the Eco-Friendly Internship, the other interns and I learned about blogger outreach and its proper etiquette. Some bloggers are really big and harder to reach than others. But, no matter how big or small they are, there are some general rules that you must follow when contacting them.
It is important to know the actual name of the blogger and be familiar with the material that he/she writes. Make sure that it is okay to contact them. When contacting them, clearly state who you are and where you work. Also, be upfront with your objectives and only contact them once. Finally, leave a way for them to contact you.
This week, I researched a few blogs about green marketing and digital marketing. I found a few that I found interesting and contacted the authors seeking professional advice. I have already heard back from one and still waiting for the others. Hopefully I will hear back from them soon!
Eco-Friendly Internship: Up and Running
There is a new website for the Ingenex Digital Marketing Eco-Friendly Internship! Here you can view information about the internship, information on each member of the inaugural class, and posts from the interns about digital marketing and eco-friendly tips. It is still in its beginning stages, but be prepared for more updates soon. I already wrote a little piece on user-generated content and an eco-friendly tip—so go check it out!
The eco-friendly internship prides itself on teaching digital skills while being good on the environment. With meetings only once a week, less gas is used than in a normal 5-day work week. Also, the set up this internship reduces the harmful emissions that are released from cars, making it environmentally-friendly. Each of us interns (either in college or fresh out of college) can save our money from expensive gas prices. Also, because this is a digital internship, almost all of our assignments are completed online. This saves a lot of paper and reduces waste. It is not only good on the environment but also good on the interns.
Trips to the office are significantly reduced, yet the experience is not compromised. Each week we learn more digital skills and work on real-world products. Then, throughout the week, we work on assignments to enhance our digital knowledge or on projects for Ingenex. I like this internship because it is like a class because I am constantly learning, yet I am not missing out on industry experience. This is a great stepping-stone for me in my early advertising career.
I also like this internship because the schedule is flexible and the people I work with are sincere. Meeting once a week is perfect for a college student who is working a part-time job, such as myself. I was also able to join a few of the meetings via video chat when I could not make the meeting time. Most of the projects are completed online, making it very easy to submit work and communicate about any questions or problems we have on an assignment. Derek, the CEO of Ingenex, is very quick on answering emails/questions and genuine when it comes to teaching us digital skills.
This internship is about half-way through, and so far it has been a great experience. This internship is digital, eco-friendly, and industry experience all rolled up into one. It can provide a great experience for anyone who is interested in any or all of these areas. I am happy with what has come out so far and excited to see what is still to come.

Online PR
This week, me and my fellow interns had to write a press release on the eco-friendly internship that we are a part of. During our meeting (I joined via video chat), we combined two of our drafts into a final draft. I learned that press releases must be clear, eye-catching, and to-the-point. We researched many online PR websites and tested them by submitting a press release that was already written about Ingenex.
Each of the interns looked over a different site. These sites included Pr.com, 1888pressrelease.com, and free-press-release.com. Most of them asked for a headline, summary, and then the release itself.
Hopefully, we will be able to get the eco-friendly internship press release online soon. We will first send it to traditional media, and then go online. It is important to have online PR to spread the word on a new product. You can easily link to other websites to make it easier to widen your company’s presence online. This will also make it easier to find in search engines. With online PR, we will be able to create awareness about the first eco-friendly internship at Ingenex.
Consumer Generated Content
This summer I am participating in an internship at Ingenex Digital Marketing. During the summer, all of us interns must research and write a paper on a digital topic. My topic is consumer generated content (CGC). I picked this topic because I enjoy using consumer generated content as well as seeing how it affects more traditional forms of media. I find it interesting to see how the media is changing and how advertising is adapting to it.
In my paper, I want to cover a brief overview of CGC, its history, and its possible future. I want to focus on how CGC is affecting the advertising industry. For example, with CGC growing online, more people are attracted to the internet, rather than television or other forms of traditional media. Because I am studying advertising, I would like to research how the advertising industry is being affected and how it is handling it.
I’m still in the initial stages of research, so my paper may turn out differently depending how my research unfolds. Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions!
Digital Marketing Internship
This summer, I have started my first internship. I work for Ingenex Digital Marketing based in Ann Arbor, MI. As an intern, I am part of the first group of interns to build digital marketing skills while completing real research for this company.
Since I just finished my second year at Michigan State, I still have a lot to learn in the area of advertising and marketing, especially in digital. I was told by several professionals that digital is the way to go in advertising, therefore I saw this internship as the perfect opportunity. I hope to learn skills in the digital area as well as to build my professional career. I also hope that this internship will give me a better glimpse into the real world of advertising.
I plan on achieving these goals by actively participating in the internship. I want to work hard and and learn a lot from this experience. With this attitude, I believe that this internship program will be a success not only for me, but for the company as well.
